The following tips are based on the experiences of school career development coordinators and may be of assistance: how do i determine appropriate industries to visit? identify students' interests from completed career assessment s ; . identify curriculum to determine what you would like students to learn. identify occupations available in local industries to determine where a visit would match with students' interests and class curriculum. how do i locate industries willing to host my students? distribute parent survey for career development in parent section of this guide ; . this survey will identify parents who work in local industries and may be willing to host your students. identify potential industries in the yellow pages of the phone book and contact their human resources department. get a list of employers in your area from the employment security commission esc ; website ncesc ; or contact the soicc office. from esc's opening screen, select "individual services" and search the employer listings. contact the chamber of commerce and inquire about student-friendly industries. consider whom you know that might work in an industry and provide a contact. ask community college teachers for industry contacts, or to provide a tour of their institution. review the career briefs section in career choices in nc and or nc careers nccareers ; and identify the primary employing industries, by occupation. participate in tours offered by industries during open houses for the community. arrangements and questions to consider with industry contact when setting up an industry visit: communicate clearly the educational expectations for the visit, including any curriculum competencies to be addressed; agree on the number of students to attend and time frames. send a follow-up letter to confirm arrangements and any additional details. how many students could you accommodate? consider the limitations of the industry. it is often difficult for an industry to accommodate large numbers of students. if the number is smaller than your group, ask if they could set up a rotation during the visit to accommodate larger numbers. o which days of the week would be best for our visit? what time of day is best? o how do i find your location? where do we park? who do we ask for when we arrive? o could you include demonstrations or hands-on activities for the students? o most industries have a variety of careers involved in their day-to-day business. for example, a manufacturing industry may have production line workers, accountants, public relations personnel, secretaries, distribution personnel, product developers, and kitchen workers. you may have individual students interested in various occupations within one industry. encourage the industry representatives to discuss the various career options during the visit. are there any safety or other concerns? preparing students for industry visits: research the industry before taking the tour. have students do the research a company activity. make certain the students understand the objectives of the visit and how this connects to the curriculum.
The last lecture on friday, starting around midnight, was the famed street performer cellini. this was a combination of classic magic, expertly performed, accompanied by many entertaining stories from his life on the road, as well as very practical advice on how to be a successful street performer. this ranged from the type of clothing to wear, the different styles of tables available, how to attract a crowd, how to keep the crowd, and how to get the money at the end of the show. some of the effects he performed and demonstrated were the vanishing and appearing wand, the cups and balls, and a beautiful two-ring routine. saturday morning started with the boris wild lecture. although this was the third time boris had lectured at ffff the lecture was completely new and contained half a dozen extremely strong and entertaining card routines. one of the highlights was his "bikini prediction", which involved predicting the winner of the miss bikini beauty contest from amongst the 52 beauties displayed on the "hooters" brand of playing cards! this was a fascinating trick in many ways; very entertaining, lots of by-play, and a very cleverly constructed force that fitted the presentation so perfectly. definitely worth taking the trouble to find the special cards required for the effect. other clever routines were "wild monte", where the back of the money card kept changing colour although this didn't help the sucker find the money card ; , "chain reaction", a sort of wild card effect with a full deck, "i can see clearly now", a routine in which a freely chosen card is found while the performer is blindfolded, and "mindbuster video", in which a freely selected dvd is successfully predicted by the magician. boris also performed his new packet trick "very wild", which is visual magic at its best. the last formal lecture was by david stone early on saturday afternoon. this was very similar to the lecture he gave here in melbourne last september. he opened with the "splash bottle" production and followed this with some of his excellent coin magic, including various four-coin productions. he went through his "quit smoking" routine in detail and then did a few card moves, including a snap change handling, his "card shooting", and a new card on seat routine. the four formal shows take place on the friday and saturday afternoon and evening and each feature approximately 12 performers. there isn't enough space to mention all the performers so i'm just going to mention a few personal highlights, and seeing bob sheets again was certainly one of them. bob is well known for his walnut shells and pea routine as well as his new dice routine and he was performing these throughout the convention, but on the saturday night show he performed a standard apparatus trick, "cube-a-libra" six blocks in a tube keep changing position ; , and showed how to make it entertaining. it was a real lesson in presentation. john carney also appeared on the saturday night show and performed" zone zero", ramsey's "three coins in a hat" routine, a nice 10 cards across routine and a very impressive diminishing cards routine. david stone performed as well and did a brilliant card stab routine. at one stage he had a card selected, signed and shuffled back into the pack. just before springing the cards into the air he rushed across to the french magician bebel and grabbed one of his crutches, swung it into the air, and impaled the selected card on the crutch. it was a very funny and startling effect! one performer new to me was a young french magician by the name of mathieu bich. he does some very original material which is both excellent and not particularly difficult to perform. he has several effects on the market and they are well worth looking at. a couple of young english performers, richard pinner and nicholas einhorn, also both made big impacts. richard performed an hilarious three card monte routine using three standard colouring books! the entertainment he got out of this was just sensational. nicholas also performed an excellent act which started with the "splash bottle" production, which seemed rather strange as david stone had already performed it several times that day in his lecture. but it all made sense at the end of the act when a signed, selected card was revealed to be inside the bottle of wine produced at the start of the act! nicholas also performed a lot of impromptu magic outside the formal shows. he has a great new method of producing four coins from a spread deck that uses an old gimmick in a new way. another highlight? seeing david williamson performing his strike vanish. in his hands it looks completely impossible. with so many other performers it simply looks like the object to be vanished is just thrown into the other hand. but then david performs all his sleights immaculately! he and john carney also teamed-up on the saturday night show to "interview" a poster of max maven. john hid behind the poster and imitated max's voice and sounded exactly like him ; while david played the part of the interviewer. it was totally hilarious and had everyone in stitches. the mvp most valued performer ; this year was david stone, and next years guest of honour is to be pat page. i'm sorry this report can only scratch the surface of what is always an incredible magical experience. there are so many more highlights to mention, just not enough time to write them all down. but just ask me about them when you see me at the club! david jones and yu gi oh card game.

Dangers of deep participatory techniques. for his research, he actively engaged with a drug dealing society which was culturally foreign to the researcher. he befriended a young teenage cocaine dealer, and became involved with his family. his stated goal was to "acquire empathy for local ways of acting and feeling" p. 399 ; . vanderstaay became a `big brother' to the young drug dealer, but the young man ended up in jail for murdering his mother's friend. the research project was abandoned. as with marquart 2001 ; above, vanderstaay 2005 ; was `haunted' by the participant's demise. he was guilt ridden, and suffered emotional distress and secondary trauma. he reported he did not have the "capacity to negotiate the emotional trauma and ambiguity of his fieldwork" vanderstaay, 2005, p. 400 ; . he experienced stress and trauma at every stage of his fieldwork, which obscured his "focus on the concerns and goals that first led me to initiate the study while inhibiting my capacity to make sound judgements in difficult circumstances" vanderstaay, 2005, p. 402 ; . these warnings from high participatory researchers were of crucial importance in devising our methodology. they not only discuss ongoing emotional trauma; they also report emotional responses of the researcher which caused them to lose focus and lose sight of the goals of the research marquart, 2001; vanderstaay, 2005 ; . of course, weaknesses of ethnography according to classical psychological methodologists ; are well documented. tewksbury 2001 ; warns against losing analytical perspective through the use of such deep immersion techniques. maton 1993 ; argues that by using ethnographic methodologies without other corroborating evidence "researchers personal and cultural biases may lead to inaccurate `translations' of a subjective culture" p. 749 ; . to transcend these concerns, maton corroborated his ethnographic research into religious subcultures with a linked empiricalethnographic methodology. whilst this may be possible in some settings where participants are likely to comply with empirical methodologies; we did not have this luxury with the omcs. compliance with neither quantitative techniques nor any other technique which would divulge and trading card games.

Thrice the artist in the ambulance island there's always concern when a band who was reasonably successful on an indie signs with a majorand for good reason, as quite a few bands end up trading in their artistic integrity for a big fat royalty check. the artist in the ambulance is thrice's first offering for island, and it is, quite frankly, a brilliant album. the band shows considerable maturity in their songwriting, as the songs paint a musical landscape complete with dustin kensue's often pensive and brooding lyrics, and the band's sound falling somewhere in between metal, hardcore, and emo. the group at times seems to be a bit too preoccupied with experimenting with different time signatures, however that also adds to the band's intricate and complex sound which has also become their trademark. the cd comes in a stunning package with pull out cards for each track with lyrics and song notes. thrice have created a visual and sonic masterpiece which is highly recommended. thrice and pokemon card game.
