I just returned from the annual winter music conference in miami. this is a week-long consortium of the world's biggest deejays, nightclub operators, agents, artist management, and producers. all of the talent that has graced the dj booths of tahoe south shore nightclubs were there, including tiesto, christopher lawrence, donald glaude, dj am, kaskade, bt, and more. most importantly the pioneer of the dance club remix, dj producer paul oakenfold was in miami to play for the first time with miami's symphony orchestra. mr. oakenfold invited myself and publicist hannah kampf to witness this spectacular event which took place at one of south beach's hottest venues, mansion. the setting was surreal as this large, formal string section warmed up prior to oakenfold taking his place in the dj booth set-up center stage. high-definition creative graphics were projected on a screen stretching the entire length of the stage. then paul o. took the stage, the electronic beat of subsonic bass blasted through the amazing sound system, and while paul's original music was spinning on his turntables, the orchestra kicked-in and accompanied him on a 90-minute journey of some of oakenfold's best dance music, and also new music from the newly launched video game the bourne conspiracy , which sponsored the event paul oakenfold wrote the original music for the game ; . a special appearance by cee-lo from gnarls barkley brought the house down, followed by live vocals from crazy town's tc butterfly, starry eyed surprise ; . the attendee's were blown away by this unique event, and it was the talk of the conference. we celebrated with paul and his management afterwards at the delano in south beach. what a night!! this relationship with paul oakenfold has spawned another exciting project that i proud to be involved. the last time paul was in tahoe, i had a conversation with him about a new live production that i was producing.

Accor has supported the olympic movement since 1999, partnering with national olympic committees, signing marketing contracts with organizing committees and promoting the candidacy of cities seeking to host the olympic games. in phase with the group's international scope, multiple skills and cultural diversity, support for the olympic movement enhances accor's image in the eyes of employees, customers and partners. by leveraging accor's brands and businesses, as well as its employees' capabilities, the sports sponsorship strategy also provides attractive business opportunities, which would have been the case if paris had been selected to host the 2012 olympic games. paris's failure to win its bid for the games was greeted with considerable disappointment across the organization, since the entire network and its team members in france were enthusiastically involved in supporting the city's candidacy throughout first-half 2005. the 1, 200 hotels in france displayed the paris 2012 logo, 190, 000 copies of a special issue of the monthly accor magazine dedicated to the city's candidacy were distributed, and scrolls printed with "accor, official support of paris 2012" were installed in 300 carlson wagonlit travel agencies. support for paris's bid did, however, demonstrate the ability of leading french companies to unite their efforts on issues that are in the collective national interest. and accor will nonetheless be involved in the 2012 olympic games through its 15 hotels in london. the 2006 winter games in turin and 2008 summer games in beijing represent the next phase in accor's commitment to the olympic movement. the group's involvement includes partnerships with several national olympic committees, marketing agreements, and displays and or events in all hotel chains. for the turin games, more than 150 hotels organized special operations. in 2005, accor's major sport sponsorship event was the open de france golf tournament, which will celebrate its centennial in 2006. as a major partner to the event, one of the most prestigious on the pga european tour, accor publicized the tournament via its internal and external media and through 32 amateur accorhotels competitions held in ten countries. in the tournament's vip village, the accorhotels pavilion, which was catered by lentre, hosted 380 guests invited by 20 of the group's brands and divisions. lastly, on june 15, 2005, accor and the organizing committee of the rugby world cup 2007 signed a partnership agreement to provide lodging during the event using the mondiresa central booking system. with 2.5 million spectators expected to attend the competition between september 7 and october 20, 2007, a total of 22, 000 rooms per match-day have been pre-booked in 600 hotels affiliated with the mondiresa network, which was designed and is managed by accor. Impact of emotions on choices elster also writes about choice and emotion. despite there are claims to the contrary, elster argues that `emotions are involuntary undergone rather than consciously chosen, events rather than actions' ibid. 150 ; . he also notes that `most emotional experiences are greatly magnified if they take us by surprise' ibid. 151 ; , which supports the role of unexpectedness as a global variable affecting the intensity of emotions. this is validated, again, with the counter-example of a game where every state and their outcome and ultimately the winner ; would be known to all players beforehand - it hardly would produce an exciting and emotional game experience for its players due to the lack of intensity across emotion types. elster distinguishes five aspects of whether and when emotion has impact on choice. their relevance in light of games can be summarised to the following observations: negative emotions such as fear, anger, and shame leave intentionality of choices intact but undermine reward sensitivity, and they thus relate to action without choices, e.g. mere survival retaining status in the game ; or revenge choosing the ill fortune of others as primary goal ; . it is quite common that emotions leave reward sensitivity intact but undermine rationality -- thus they relate to minimal but not rational choice `jumping to conclusions' presents an example ; . in general, emotion leaves rationality intact across both mild and strong emotions, but elster claims that it is debatable whether emotions could actually enhance rationality, as, e.g. antonio damasio 1996, 2004 ; has argued. elster 1999, 154--9. ; in terms of applied ludology, this means that games which elicit intensively emotional experiences presumably enhance replayability, as they privilege minimal choices and thus elicit subsequent ruminations of unwanted consequences. time discounting, then, could be a game design pattern which modulates the ratio between the available choices, and the tempo in which they have to be made. essentially this is what tetris and other game and card game com. Mr. haas explained to the board that mr. poce was virtually in place for almost all pavilion functions, as well as inside the elks building events. and as discussed during prior meetings, signs have been placed at all exit doors that no pitchers of beer or alcohol will be allowed outside of the elks building. also noting that someone is always watching the bar in the elks building and its board members are working hard to put everything in its proper place above board and legal. mr. haas stated currently the elks is considering a wrist band for "drinking age" individuals to wear, in the hopes of uncovering any possible underage drinking. ms. mulcahy noted that showcase cinemas 1-15, 864 riverdale street has used the wrist band in the past during their red sox game night events where they have offered beer or wine, and that has worked out well for them. mr. poce noted the elks have already started setting up events at the elks pavilion and asked about a matrix to use specifically for the elks. mr. maleck informed him that he would need to submit their applications to this office and that he would be the "go-between" between the elks pavilion events and this office, he would be responsible for compiling everything for that month and submitting it to the license commission office in a timely manner, allowing the office further processing, department sign off's etc. mr. maleck informed mr. poce that he would then need to attend the meeting for the approval of the events listed on the matrix. mr. maleck suggested he contact the license commission office for assistance. mr. haas asked mr. maleck how it was going for others in town regarding becoming bar code or tips certified or was it just the elks which needed to have all its bartenders certified. mr. maleck stated since the board was put in place in 2000 this board prides itself in being fair across the board with everyone who comes before this board. mr. maleck noted that as establishments come before the board, be it a transfer of alcohol, change of manager, change of dba or to modify its license, each entity is being brought "up to speed" as the elks currently is. mr. maleck thanked mr. haas and mr. poce for their time and attention to this matter. #03 board discussion regarding bar code and or tips certified individuals the board noted that the office received a telephone call from a ms. catherine pokorny, manager of eddie shore enterprises, inc., located in the coliseum, 1305 memorial avenue who seemed to be concerned as to who needed to be bar code or tips certified. she noted that the eastern states exposition had requested that the manager and bartenders where alcohol was sold would need to become certified. ms. pokorny stated she had no bartenders that she had a concession stand with a beer tap and needed clarification as to who would need to become bar code or tips certified. the board discussed who would need to be bar code and or tips certified and unanamously agreed that for present and future any individual who is serving or pouring any type of alcohol will be required to be bar code or tips certified. the board noted that the more aware of the impact of alcohol a person is, the better and safer the situation would be for everyone. #146 approval for: minutes of december 5, 2006 mr. maleck moved to approve the minutes of december 5, 2006 as revised. ms. mulcahy seconded. uav.
